Chapter 12: Knock Knock

07/01/2022

"As reports show that D.E.O's cargo shipment decoy was viciously attacked today by a multitude of demons."

Yaki watched the news as she sat on the couch holding her knees.

*Creak*

Yaki turned her head immediately towards the door.

"Sorry I was so late Yaki!"

"Aku!"

Yaki looked at Aku's hands seeing him holding two bags of TokiDoki takeout. Her eyes lit up in love.

"Oh, my god Aku! You got TokiDoki!"

Yaki snatched the bags as quickly as she could while Aku followed her to the counter. He looked over at the TV where he saw the news. The news he himself helped make.

"The demon's that were on the scene were seemingly not in cooperation with each other. As it seemed from reports made by witnesses they too were also fighting. Not only that but the life of a formidable 3rd Rank officer "Officer. Jones"was lost today on the scene with his efforts looking to be heroic by the people. With this, how much do we need to lose from these monsters? Fear of these demons has never been so high, in this day and age. Well the D.E.O plans to take this fear and forget about it, risking their lives everyday trying to make it one step closer to eliminating the race itself."

"Aku? Why do you think Demons are the way they are?"

Aku stumbled on the question as he's never heard Yaki talk about Demon's before.

"I-uh I don't know? Maybe Demons are the way they are because of the way we are. We just are who we are, you know? Hatred, with whom each other could be another reason."

"Could you imagine Aku, the whole world being against you just because of the way you are? It sounds unfair but they are monsters I guess. I'm kind of glad to be who I am."

Yaki smiled as she changed the channel to an anime. Aku sat up quietly and walked to the sink.

'I swear to it!'

He clenched his hand on the handle of the cabinet.

'For you to be happy with who you are. I'll make sure nothing ever happens to you. I'll make sure you never find out what you are in this world.'

He poured a glass of water calmly adjusting his glasses.

*Knock*

*Knock*

They both immediately turned their heads to the door.

'Who would be knocking at this hour?'

The both of them thought to themselves. Aku then smelled something behind the door.

'So much hatred!'

"Yaki go to your room!"

He said quietly but urgently. She then stood up and started to walk away.

"Yaki? Are you up?"

Yaki then looked towards Aku.

'I know that voice.'

Yaki's tension then loosened up after her thought.

"It's me, Natsuki. Look, I messed up and need a place to stay tonight."

Yaki started to walk towards the door.

"No,"

Aku got in her way stopping her from reaching the door.

"Why?"

"I have a bad feeling about this Yaki."

"It's just Suki, Aku. It's no big deal."

Yaki then pushed past Aku heading towards the door.

*Click*

Yaki turned the door handle as the door slowly creaked open.

"Thank you Yaki, this means a lot!"

"No problem Suki! So what are you doing here?"

"Well I was having one hell of a day and decided to stop by."

A second voice that came from behind Natsuki also felt familiar to Yaki.

*Crumble*

Natsuki crumbled into ashes and pieces as nothing but a hand took her place from the same man she met in the alleyways. He stepped forward smiling as he reached out with a scrawny but menacing hand towards Yaki.
