Chapter Six: Till death do us part
I woke up a few hours later after being knocked on the head. I was being dragged across the ground to somewhere I had no idea.
The sky was red and every tree looked like it was dead. Leaves were everywhere and they seemed to be burning in the heat of ashes.
It took me a few seconds to get my senses back up, as I leaped back to my feet and sprung in the opposite direction of my enemies.
"God fucking dammit will someone please get him."
"Yeah yeah. We're on it."
"Yippity yep." She stretched as they then both took off as they were both a pair of speed devils.
I ran as fast as I could, not necessarily getting out of their reach. I had no idea where I was going. I was so lost I couldn't tell left from right.
I made turn after turn until I eventually tripped and started rolling down a hill.
"Come the hell out Leo! You're only gonna make this worse for yourself." Her voice sounded close but echoed. I ran along a straight path until I found myself upon a rivers edge.
"This has to be a dream." I said looking at my reflection. I then knelt down and washed my face.
I then looked back at my reflection and saw my face began to melt and the skin of my face disintegrated.
"Aghhh!!" I screamed falling backwards feeling my face. But it felt fine. I looked back into the river and my reflection was back to normal. I then saw a beer bottle float across going farther down stream.
"Pollution? Maybe there's a city nearby.." I went the opposite direction and followed the river up stream. Until I found a somewhat beautiful city.
Lights eliminated the water as the skyline was dark and peaceful. The stars in the sky were the same from before.
I began to tear up. I was really dead. I wasn't home, I was nowhere. Heck I don't even know where 'here' is.
I followed the stream some more until I ended under a bridge. There I sat down and laid underneath. Bathing in my tears.
"Found you!"
"Agh!! Stay away from me!!" I said slowly creeping backwards."
"Don't worry I won't hurt you."
"You know that's exactly what a person who was about to hurt me would say." I stated, as a teardrop rolled down my cheek.
"Are you crying?"
"Why does it even matter? You're all gonna kill me anyways."
"Again, don't worry I won't turn you in." I looked away wiping the sorrow of my face.
She then took a seat next to me.
"If you aren't gonna turn me in, why did you come?" I asked.
She didn't speak.
"Are you not gonna answer me?! Why would you come to find me if you aren't gonna turn me into that scumbag!?"
She then placed her finger upon my lips.
"I came to find you because I just wanted to talk. You are the first human I have met since death."
"Y-you're dead??"
"Leo.. did you just ask if I was dead..? Do you not see where we are..?"
"O-oh.. yeah.." I felt the uttermost stupidity for asking such a question. "Well.. how did you die?"
"It was more of a personal matter." She didn't look directly at me when she talked, she stared into the water and looked at the reflections. It was more as if she was talking to my reflection rather than me.
"Oh.."
"Yeah..."
We sat in silence for a long while. Listening to the wish washes of the water.
"I think I'm ready to head back now."
"Why don't we just hang out for a bit more?"
"Um.. okay.."
"Come on just think about all the fun we can have!"
"Yeah, I doubt tha- ahh!!" She then pushed me into the water.
The water was shallow as I laid on my back and my clothes became soaked. I then sat up to Rachel giggling.
"Alright alright, can you help me out now?"
"Yeah, yeah.." She said as she finished laughing then reached her hand out. I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her in.
"Ahh!!" She fell on top of me as our heads collided.
"Ow.."
"See what you did...Meanie..." She said, rubbing her forehead as I let out a small laugh. "It's not funny..."
"It kinda is.." I said smiling.
She then leaned in as if she was going to kiss me. I felt her hair flowing within the breeze as my face became flushed with blood.
"Hehe, gotta say you're kinda cute." She then stood up and pulled me to my feet. I couldn't speak as my stomach filled with butterflies.
"I didn't scare you did I?"
"N-no.." I said hesitantly. Moments after a flash of light soon passed us as Rachel pulled me behind a pillar.
"Shh." She hushed me quietly.
"Who's there?! Come on out or you'll only make this worse for yourself." We couldn't see who was there but we knew it was someone to bother with.
"You know we've heard reports of a human entering hell.. If that's so true I'll gladly help you out before something disastrous happens." It stated as Rachel pointed towards the woods.
I shook my head in equal agreement as we dashed quietly away from the nuisance.
"Guess not.." It said as we watched it walk away.
"Come on, I know a place we can go before we need to start heading back."
"Okay.." I said silently as she grabbed onto my hand and led me throughout the woods.
We soon entered out onto a cliff that watched over the night sky and the sea.
"Where are we?" I asked, looking upon the hellish night sky.
"This place is called Lady Roswell."
"That's an odd name honestly."
"It isn't the name that really matters.. It's what happened here that makes this place unique.,"
"What happened..?" I said as we both sat down next to each other looking out at the ocean view as the moon sat resting in the sky.
"As it goes it was the story of a man who murdered his so called 'true love' and as a punishment for his crime God made him live that day over and over. But the man was never made to know that he was the one who killed her. Until one day he found it out on his own. And now he no longer lives that day over again."
She then laid her head on my shoulder. As my face became flushed all over again.
"That story is just h-harsh.."
"Well that's God for you, Incredibly petty and just a straight up asshole."
"To be honest I never believed in any religion, and even now I don't. I find that this is truly nothing more than parallel worlds fighting for what they believe in."
"I never thought of it like that.."
"I guess it's just food for thought." I said as I smiled. She then looked back at me and smiled back, she then leaned in and kissed my cheek.
"Thank you for hanging out with me today."
"Y-yeah.. N-no problemo.."
